🏛️ Say goodbye to “Ye Olde Courthouse”? Maybe. A five-story apartment-and-retail project in Old Town Newhall just cleared a big hurdle after the city’s Planning Commission approved plans to demolish a city-designated historic building—in exchange for a $750,000 “that-sounds-about-right” fee. The courthouse, built in 1931 with wood salvaged from a local dance hall-turned-morgue (yes, really), had been on the city’s historic registry for over a decade… until recently, when a new letter from the Historical Society decided maybe it wasn’t that historic after all. The fee was based not on official estimates to move the building, but on informal talks between the developer and a City Council member. The project—78 apartments and 5,300 sq. ft. of retail—is headed to the City Council in late April. Stay tuned for what could be a very spicy meeting. (The Signal)

🎢 Say it ain’t so, Superman! After nearly three decades of launching riders backward at 100 mph into the stratosphere, Six Flags Magic Mountain’s “Superman: Escape from Krypton” is officially not coming back. Originally opened in 1997 as a record-breaking reverse freefall coaster, the ride has been closed for refurbishment since September—but park officials confirmed this week it’s permanently grounded. The good news? Magic Mountain isn’t giving up its coaster crown just yet. A brand new thrill ride is already in the works for 2026, set to rise where the old Showcase Theater once stood. Faster than a speeding bullet? We’ll see. (SCV News)

Hosted with Harley Davidson of Santa Clarita, True Barre, and D’Wilifri DanceArt & Entertainment, this spring fling is totally free and 100% festive. Bring the kiddos, bring the energy, and maybe bring a basket too—you’re gonna need it!

🎤 Eighth grader Hank Dalton of Castaic Middle School just hit a home run of his own—scoring an interview with none other than Dodgers star Mookie Betts. As part of a Black History Month assignment for Cougar News, Hank leveraged a pretty awesome family connection: his dad, James Dalton, is Betts’ longtime private chef. The shortstop squeezed the interview into his spring training schedule, flying out and staying with the Daltons to make it happen. The result? A buzzy video segment that wowed Hank’s classmates and turned him into the school hallway celeb. His teacher, Terry Parent, says it’s a shining example of student voices and risk-taking—and Betts couldn’t have agreed more. (The Signal)
