THE DIGEST

40 Years of Musical Mayhem 🎺

The William S. Hart Regiment is about to drop the beat on Santa Clarita's biggest band bash. Rampage, the 40th Annual Hart Field Tournament, marches into College of the Canyons Cougar Stadium on October 26, 2024.

This full-day spectacle features over 32 of SoCal's finest marching bands and color guards. Think musical Olympics, minus the doping scandals (unless you count too much valve oil).

Between performances, browse merchandise, sample local eats, and try your luck at raffle prizes. The day crescendos with a mass drumline that'll have you tapping your feet all the way home.

Tickets will be available because even world-class entertainment isn't immune to capitalism. For more info or to donate (these tubas don't polish themselves), visit www.HartRegiment.com

Santa Clarita's Community Glow-Up 🌱

On October 26th, Santa Clarita is hosting its annual "Make A Difference Day." It's the city's way of saying, "We love you, but you could use some work."

From assembling cabinets for the Boys and Girls Club to painting barns at Straightening Reins, there's a volunteer opportunity for every skill set. Whether you're a master of the Allen wrench or a Picasso with a paint roller, your talents are in high demand.

The day kicks off at 8 a.m. with breakfast and a pep talk from Mayor Cameron Smyth. It's the perfect combo of fuel for your body and motivation for your spirit. Plus, it's probably the only time you'll see the mayor before your morning coffee – a true civic honor.

Join your neighbors in this community makeover extravaganza. After all, nothing bonds a community quite like collectively realizing none of us remember how to properly use a level.

The Road Less Traveled (By Choice) 🛣️

Remember those eagerly anticipated community meetings about sprucing up Highway 14? Well, they've hit a speed bump. It turns out even meetings about traffic can get stuck in bureaucratic gridlock.

Councilwoman Marsha McLean is leading the charge to get things moving again, channeling the energy of a GPS recalculating its route for the umpteenth time. She's determined to turn "Highway 14" from a punch line into a success story.

Caltrans and Metro officials are busy "refining project alternatives." In layman's terms, they're playing a high-stakes game of "This or That" with our transportation future. It's like choosing between rocky road and mint chocolate chip, except the flavors are "slightly less traffic" and "marginally fewer potholes."

The stakes are high, with collision rates on Highway 14 currently outpacing the state average. But fear not, SCV commuters! This delay might just be the traffic equivalent of a pit stop – a chance to refuel, recalibrate, and come back with even better ideas.

In the meantime, consider this your official permission to daydream about teleportation devices during your commute. Just keep your eyes on the road while you do it.

LOCAL BUSINESS

Glitz, Glam, and Giving Back 💃

Porsche Santa Clarita’s METGala SCV is upon us, proving once again that Santa Clarita can throw a party with the best of them. This isn't just another excuse to dress up and pretend we're in "The Great Gatsby" (although that's certainly a perk). The event is raising funds for METAvivor, supporting metastatic breast cancer research.

This Saturday, wxpect a night of cocktails, dinner, and a live auction where you can bid on items you didn't know you needed until that second glass of champagne. And remember, all proceeds go to METAvivor. So even if your dance moves haven't improved since your high school prom, you're still making a difference.

LOCAL SPORTS

Touchdown on Home Turf 🏈

Last Friday, Hart High School made history by hosting their first true home game in 51 years, and they didn't disappoint. Facing the Birmingham Patriots in a last-minute matchup, the Hawks dominated with a decisive 35-9 victory.

The game, played on Larry Fiscus Field, saw Hart's defense put up a formidable performance while the offense electrified the crowd. For many students, this was their first experience of a genuine home game atmosphere on campus.

Coach Jake Goossen-Brown, who had earlier expressed hope for a home game, saw his wish granted sooner than expected. "I didn't think it would happen this fast," he had remarked.

The win wasn't just about the score; it was a celebration of Hart's football tradition and community spirit. As the Hawks proved, sometimes the sweetest victories happen right in your own backyard.
