THE DIGEST
Remembering Adam P. Arias 🇺🇸
On September 11, 2001, the world lost Adam P. Arias, a man whose life was a symphony of talents. At 37, this Euro Brokers VP wasn't just climbing corporate ladders; he was scaling musical heights with a voice that could make Sinatra tip his hat.
Arias's final act was one of selfless courage. After escaping Tower 2, he chose to assist firefighters in directing others to safety. In a moment when self-preservation would have been understandable, he opted for heroism.
In Adam's memory, a scholarship fund was established to train people to work with autistic children, a cause close to his heart.

Move over, smog. There's a new air quality villain in town. Thanks to the Bridge, Line, Airport, and Roblar fires, LA County is serving up a cocktail of particulate matter that's leaving residents breathless—and not in a good way.
Health Officer Dr. Muntu Davis advises everyone to limit outdoor activities. Sorry, outdoor enthusiasts, your rooftop yoga sessions might need to take a breather.
Schools are being asked to follow the "Get Smart about Wildfire Smoke" guidelines. Because nothing says "back to school" like learning to dodge airborne ash.
Remember, if you can see or smell smoke, it's time to embrace your inner hermit. Stay inside, keep windows closed, and maybe finally binge-watch 'Breaking Bad' (and appreciate that your air quality issues aren't caused by a mobile meth lab).

An Uninvited Guest Makes Its Debut 🦟
In an unexpected plot twist, dengue fever has decided to vacation locally, making its first appearance in Baldwin Park without so much as a passport stamp.
While Public Health assures us this is more of a cameo than a starring role, they're not leaving anything to chance. The response? A door-to-door information campaign that puts even the most persistent salespeople to shame.
Dr. Muntu Davis presents a three-act play for mosquito deterrence:
Apply insect repellent liberally (think of it as your new signature scent)
Eliminate standing water (your neglected birdbath's 15 minutes of fame are over)
Fortify your home against winged invaders (it's time for windows and doors to live up to their full potential)
Learn more about Dengue and its symptoms HERE.
(ed note: I quite literally JUST swatted a mosquito away as I’m writing this 🙃)
LOCAL BUSINESS
COC To Host SCV Job Fair 💼
The College of the Canyons' West Gym is set to become a hub of opportunity on Friday, October 18, as it hosts the Santa Clarita Job Fair. This collaborative effort, bringing together over 100 employers, is the brainchild of the SCV Economic Development Corporation, COC, the city of Santa Clarita, the SCV Chamber of Commerce, and America's Job Centers of California.
Free and open to the public, this event is a professional matchmaking service minus the awkward small talk. Job seekers can even get a resume "makeover" courtesy of COC's writing assistance. Whether you're a fresh graduate or a seasoned professional, it's time to dust off your business attire and prepare to waltz into new opportunities.

Cougars Script a Cinematic Comeback ⚽
In a home opener that read like a Hollywood sports drama, COC men's soccer team emerged victorious with a 2-1 win against Lemoore College. The Eagles struck first, taking the lead in the 30th minute, but the Cougars weren't about to let their home turf be tamed so easily.
Freshman Josue Chavez and sophomore Gage Fritz played the roles of last-minute heroes, netting back-to-back stoppage time goals to flip the script. Goalkeeper Mario Velasquez kept the Cougars in the game with crucial saves, while his second-half replacement, Hunter Maiden, sealed the deal with a spectacular save in the 84th minute. This nail-biting victory proves that in soccer, as in life, timing is everything – and sometimes, the most thrilling performances happen just before the final curtain.
