📚 SCV kids, time to flex those crayons. The 46th Annual LA County Library Bookmark Contest is back Sept. 2–Oct. 18, and entries are open for all K–12 students across the Valley. The assignment? Dream up an original bookmark design inspired by books, libraries, or whatever your imagination cooks up (sorry, no SpongeBob doodles — copyrighted characters are a no-go).
Categories are split by grade level, and winners will be announced in November at the Castaic Library and Stevenson Ranch Library before moving on to compete countywide. Grand prize winners will see their designs turned into actual bookmarks distributed at libraries across L.A. — which is basically the coolest flex at checkout.
Entry forms are free and can be grabbed at your local library, mailed in, or uploaded online. Deadline to submit is Oct. 18. (SCV News)
Business
⛳ The SCV Chamber’s most legendary tee time is back. The 41st Annual Oak Tree Classic Golf Tournament hits the greens on Monday, Oct. 27 at Valencia Country Club, and it’s more than just a day of drives and putts — it’s a 40-year SCV tradition of business deals made between birdies, networking over Bloody Marys, and sponsors trying to outdo each other with hole activations.
Expect a full lineup of fun: friendly competition, prizes, on-course challenges, and enough community spirit to fill a clubhouse. Whether you’re a seasoned pro with a 3-wood or just in it for the camaraderie (and cocktails), the Oak Tree Classic is where SCV’s business community comes to swing and schmooze.
Sponsorships are still up for grabs — from holes to lunch to the fan-favorite Bloody Mary Bar — and big names like Logix, UCLA Health, and Vance Wealth are already on board.
📅 When: Monday, Oct. 27
📍 Where: Valencia Country Club
🎟️ Register: scvchamber.com
Fair warning: bragging rights are on the line, and yes, the Chamber will definitely remind you of that missed 3-foot putt until next year. (SCV News)
Entertainment
🎭 Valencia’s own Clarissa Vidal Cueva just took home a Tony Award as co-producer of Maybe Happy Ending, which won Best Musical at the 2025 Tonys. A Saugus grad who once worked at Starbucks and ushered at the Pantages to save for her NYC move, Cueva hustled her way into Broadway producing — and now has the hardware to prove it. The futuristic Korean musical about two obsolete robots discovering love will head out on a national tour in 2026, with Southern California stops planned. (The Signal)
