Local Stories
Community
🚦Santa Clarita just added a meaningful new name to its map: Louis E. Brathwaite Drive. The city officially dedicated the street Friday morning at Sand Canyon Plaza, honoring Brathwaite—a trailblazing city founder, planning commissioner, and beloved community leader—on what would’ve been his 92nd birthday. Family, local leaders, and dignitaries gathered for the ceremony, reflecting on his lasting impact and unveiling the new sign with a round of applause. His widow summed it up best: “It’ll be nice to see his name driving by.” (The Signal)
Entertainment
🎭 Broadway dreams, mob schemes, and plenty of laughs — The Show Must Go On! is hitting The Main! Eclipse Theatre LA brings this original comedy by Nancy Lantis to life over two weekends starting May 9. Follow Gloria Grant, a fearless Broadway legend willing to do whatever it takes (yes, even calling in a few "favors") to save her beloved theater from the rise of television. Tickets are $22, and a portion of proceeds supports the Include Everyone Project.
Business
🍟 What started as a teenage job flipping burgers at the new McDonald’s on Soledad Canyon Road in 1979 turned into something way bigger — a lifelong family. Last week, the very first crew reunited to celebrate 45 years of friendship, marriages (yep, one couple met on the clock), and memories that have stretched across decades and even continents. Owner Jay Schutz surprised the original team with custom letterman jackets before they headed out to an L.A. Kings game to keep the party going. Safe to say, some bonds are just built to last — even if they started over fries and milkshakes. (The Signal)
