Need Help or Want to Help? Fire Relief Resources Inside ❤️🩹
Find evacuation shelters, ways to donate, and support for those affected.
Good morning, SCV. This is the SCV Insider. This week, our hearts are heavy. Wildfires have torn through Los Angeles and our surrounding communities, leaving thousands without homes and threatening lives and livelihoods. Here in Santa Clarita, many of us are anxiously watching, waiting, and hoping for the safety of our friends, neighbors, and loved ones.
It’s hard to put into words the weight of what so many are going through right now. The destruction is unimaginable, but in moments like these, we also see the strength and resilience of our community—the way we come together to help, support, and rebuild.
The newsletter looks different today because it didn’t feel right to write about weekend events or new recipes. Instead, we’re focusing on getting help to those who need it and sharing the resources that can make a difference.
Take care of yourselves and each other. SCV, we’ll get through this together.
Let’s get into it.
— Kate
🤟 Help Us Build a Support Network
We’re currently putting together a Google Doc filled with links to Venmo accounts, GoFundMe campaigns, and other ways to directly support people affected by the fires.
If you or someone you know has been impacted and needs help, we want to include you. This is about connecting our community with those who need it most—and making it easy for people to lend a hand.
It’s super simple: just fill out this Google Form with the following:
Your name
A little about your story (optional but encouraged)
A link to donate (Venmo, GoFundMe, or whatever platform works best)
We’ll keep the Google Doc updated and share it widely so more people can find and support those in need.
Let’s rally together, SCV—because no one should have to go through this alone.
🔥 Hurst Fire Situation Summary

As of 1/9, 7PM PT | Firefighters have made great progress on the Hurst Fire, successfully containing the fire north of the I-210 Foothill Freeway. Strong control lines now stretch up to Santa Clara Divide Road, and crews have been carefully managing flare-ups within the fire’s perimeter. Their focus continues to be reinforcing those lines and using strategic dozer lines to prevent any further spread.
While containment efforts are moving in the right direction, conditions are still challenging out there. A Red Flag Warning is expected to remain in effect through today, with strong winds and dry conditions adding to the fire risk. Crews from LAFD, CAL FIRE, and the LA County Fire Department, along with other agencies, are working together around the clock to keep the fire under control and protect nearby communities.
