Helping Exotic Animals Get a Second Chance 🐾

Animal Tracks Inc., a local wildlife rescue in Agua Dulce, is about to receive a $10,000 grant—pending the county board of supervisors’ approval. The grant, from the Fish and Wildlife Propagation Fund, will help Animal Tracks upgrade equipment, provide medical care, and restock supplies for their furry and scaly residents.

Animal Tracks’ mission is to educate the public on responsible pet ownership—spoiler: exotic pets aren’t it—and create a safe space for animals that need a second chance. From former movie stars to abandoned pets, they’re all given the care they need. This $10,000 grant will help them continue their work, making sure these animals are healthy, well cared for, and far away from anyone's living room.

COC Puts Student Housing Plans on Hold 🏫

College of the Canyons has decided to hit pause on its affordable student housing project. The plan, initially backed by a 2022 grant, aimed to build 100 units of student housing, but things got complicated when the funding model changed. Now, the college would have to put some of its buildings up as collateral, and the original $62 million wasn’t enough to cover costs.

Rather than stretch their resources too thin, COC’s board of trustees chose to take a step back and reconsider. They’re still committed to finding a solution for student housing in the future, but for now, the parking lot stays as is—car-ful, and dorm room-less.

SCV Water Says: Lead-Free and Proud 🚰

Good news for everyone in the Santa Clarita Valley: SCV Water has officially declared that there are no lead pipes in its system. The announcement follows a detailed inventory of the pipes and fittings in the area, part of the compliance with the EPA’s updated Lead and Copper Rule.

Assistant GM Steve Cole noted that this step is crucial in maintaining the health and safety of the community. Lead exposure is a serious issue, and it’s reassuring to know that our water infrastructure is up to par. Curious about your own water service line? Brittany Foundation Celebrates 30 Years of Dog Rescue 🐶

For thirty years, Brittany Foundation has been rewriting the story for special-needs and senior dogs—one wagging tail at a time. Last weekend, they celebrated this milestone with plenty of happy barks and even happier adopters.

Founder Nancy Anderson and her team have rescued over 3,000 dogs, finding forever homes for many and providing lifelong care for those who stay at the sanctuary. Recently, they received a $10,000 grant to train dogs with behavioral challenges—because even the rowdiest pups deserve a chance to be their best selves.

Adopter Jill Marti put it best about her 14-year-old Yorkie: "We found each other. I can't say I rescued her, because she rescued me, too."
