THE DIGEST
Dazzling Nights Ahead for Central Park ✨
Central Park is about to challenge the night sky for luminary supremacy. Starting September 25, Santa Clarita launches its "River of Lights" project, a three-month metamorphosis that'll transform the park's southern expanse into a high-tech light show. Imagine hundreds of LED lights threading through the plaza and up that notorious 172-step staircase, creating a sophisticated array of color-changing, brightness-modulating beacons. It's as if the city planners decided to one-up nature by creating a river that never runs dry.
Complementing this luminous stream is Sujin Lim's "When a Cloud Met a Cloud," featuring white clouds presiding over multi-hued "rain" columns. It's part art installation, part clever nod to Santa Clarita's water cycle. Fear not, sports enthusiasts - your fields remain unscathed. However, stair-climbing aficionados should note: your vertical treadmill will be taking a three-week sabbatical from November 1. Perhaps it's the universe suggesting you diversify your workout routine.
When it's all done, Central Park will prove that the great outdoors doesn't close at sunset. It's urban planning meets Lite-Brite, with a splash of public art for good measure.

The Man Who Rescued SCV's Silver Screen Legacy 🎞️
Marc Wanamaker, 76, isn't your average collector. In 1970, as Columbia Pictures prepared to trash 800,000 photos, Wanamaker uttered four words that changed SCV's cinematic history: "I'll take it all."
From Hopalong Cassidy fan to Hollywood archivist, Wanamaker's journey reads like a film script. He's unearthed treasures that have restored Melody Ranch and enriched William S. Hart Park. His collection? A time capsule of SCV's starring role in cinema.
Wanamaker's archive doesn't just collect dust. It breathes new life into forgotten gems. Thanks to his efforts, we can still marvel at Tom Mix's death-defying stunts in "Sky High" (1922) or appreciate the rugged beauty of our landscape in "The Big Trail" (1930), starring a young John Wayne.
But Wanamaker's quest continues. "Most people don't know where they live — I mean, they don't know what was there before," he says. His work ensures that when we watch Gene Autry in "Tumbling Tumbleweeds" (1935), we're not just seeing a movie, but a slice of SCV history.
Thanks to him, SCV's celluloid past isn't just preserved; it's starring in its own epic saga.

Your Voice in Crime-Fighting Tech 🚔
SCV, your moment to play armchair police chief has arrived. The city is seeking your take on a $20,737 public safety grant. The plan? A mobile automated license plate reader trailer. It's like a speed dating event for license plates, but instead of finding love, it finds suspicious vehicles.
This high-tech gizmo promises to be the neighborhood watch of the future, minus the nosy neighbors and endless group chats. It'll scan plates faster than you can say "But officer, I was just going with the flow of traffic." Got thoughts on this rolling robocop? Speak up before noon on Friday, Sept. 27. It's your chance to influence public safety without the hassle of patrol shifts or uncomfortable polyester uniforms.
In the realm of community security, your opinion carries weight. $20,737 worth of weight, to be exact. So whether you're pro-tech or prefer your policing old school, now's your chance to be heard. Who knows? Your two cents might just help catch the next cookie jar bandit or solve the case of the mysterious midnight barker.
