Business
š¬ļø The City of Santa Clarita is looking to expand its Open Space Preservation District with potential land deals that could preserve over 550 acres of local movie ranch properties. Negotiations are underway with two major film industry figures, and if the deals go through, much of the land near Tapia and Vasquez Canyon Roads would be protected from development and turned into open space. This move is part of a larger effort to keep natural land from being developed, while ensuring the future of the cityās parks and rare biological regions. While the specific details are still under wraps, the land would be added to the city's existing preservation district, which was established in 2007. Stay tuned as the city continues to negotiate these deals behind closed doors. (The Signal)
Education
š¬ West Ranch High School sophomore Owen Hess, along with his teammates Colton Fernandez and Grace Ha, is leading the charge to raise money for blood cancer research through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Societyās Student Visionaries of the Year program. Inspired by his time at UC Irvine, where he witnessed the struggles of underfunded medical research, Hess is determined to make a difference. So far, his campaign has raised nearly $30,000 toward a $50,000 goal, with funds directly supporting cancer patients, advocacy, and research. With the added impact of the recent L.A. wildfires, a portion of the donations will also go to those affected. The campaign ends on March 28, and Hess is hoping to meet his goal. āIn celebration of Valentineās day, my recommendation this week is a bit different from usual, not a book, but one of my favorite poems, Wild Geese, that reminds me to be gentle and love myself just as I am.
