SoCal's Most Dramatic Weather Star 💨🍃

Ah, the Santa Anas – Southern California's very own hair-wrecking, trash-can-relocating weather phenomenon. Named after Santa Ana Canyon, these winds are that dramatic relative who shows up unannounced between October and March.

Here's the plot twist: despite feeling like the desert's hot breath, these winds actually start cold before getting heated up through our mountain passes like nature's pressure cooker. By the time they reach us, they're ready to turn your perfectly styled hair into modern art and your patio furniture into frequent flyer miles.

Raymond Chandler called them the winds that make "your nerves jump and your skin itch." We just call them the reason our neighbor's recycling bin is currently visiting Ventura.

From Dreamer to Mentor 🎭

Meet Art Miller, a Canyon High drama teacher who has a knack for taking students from “never seen a stage” to “ready for the spotlight.” Art once aimed for a life under the bright lights of Broadway, but after training in music and theater in both Pittsburgh and New York, he found a different purpose: teaching. Now, he’s at Canyon High, helping his students explore the world of theater while reminding them (and himself) that life doesn’t always follow the script we expect.

Currently, Art’s students are hard at work on Grease, with Rocky and The Crucible in the wings. Want to see his teaching magic firsthand? Head to Canyon High for a show this season and witness what local talent can do!

CHP Takes on Sideshows and Street Racing 🚔

While some drivers take California’s highways as their personal racetracks, the California Highway Patrol has another plan. With $2 million in new funding, CHP’s STREET III task force is clamping down on sideshows, illegal street racing, and reckless driving across the state. Their goal is simple: make roads safer by targeting these risky gatherings, where drivers push limits at the cost of public safety.

Between 2021 and 2022, street racing incidents have dropped 40% thanks to similar efforts, and with this new grant, the CHP’s ready to keep the trend going. So unless you’re planning a career in pro racing, maybe save the revving for somewhere safer.
