Sports

🥎 Saugus resident Garth Sanders has just hit a major milestone in his umpiring career—he's been selected as a West Region umpire for the Junior League Softball World Series this summer in Kirkland, Washington! It was a surprising and exciting moment for Sanders, who has been part of the Little League family since childhood. His journey from player to umpire took off after a training clinic in San Bernardino, and now he’s been selected to umpire at one of the sport’s biggest stages. The World Series will take place from July 27 to August 2, and Sanders will also serve as one of the crew chiefs, overseeing the action. What a way to represent the community! (The Signal)

Business

💼 Santa Clarita's Economic Development Corp. just gave City Council the scoop on local hiring and business growth—and it's actually pretty exciting. CEO Ondré Seltzer shared that not only is your neighbor probably earning more than in SCV past (nice!), but new companies from aerospace to digital media are eyeing SCV, bringing even cooler jobs to town. Bottom line: more jobs, better pay, and an energized local economy means good things for everyone in Santa Clarita. (The Signal)

Education

🧠 Placerita Junior High history buffs showed off their knowledge at the regional Great History Challenge, buzzing their way through topics from ancient samurais to U.S. history. Out of 24 competitors, 11 students advanced to nationals, with five crowned regional champs! Organized by teacher Judie Blevins (fun fact: Ms. Blevins was MY 7th history teacher 🥹), the event gave students a unique chance to celebrate their love for history, earn bragging rights, and even travel to Orlando for nationals over Memorial Day weekend. Who said history can't lead to adventure? (The Signal)
