The Weekend Warmup: Tricks for Leftover Treats + a Dark New Binge🍬👀

Got candy? We've got ideas.

Good morning, SCV. Halloween’s in the rearview, but the candy stash is very much here to stay. Don’t worry—we’ve got a few, uh, “creative” ways to use it up that go beyond mindless munching. Pair that with a binge-worthy crime series set in a city where “rough around the edges” is an understatement, and a read that claims it can turn our small, messy habits into, well, slightly better ones. Intrigued? Let’s dive into a weekend of sugar-fueled recipes, morally questionable TV, and self-improvement that might actually work… might.

Oh and in case you missed it…

Our Los Angeles Dodgers are World Series champions 🏆

Let’s get into it.

Grit, Chaos, and Crime: The Penguin Has It All (and We’re Hooked) 🐧

My husband and I are hooked on The Penguin—it’s like The Sopranos threw a party in Gotham, and Penguin is the life of it (minus the polite small talk, plus a lot of crime). Colin Farrell is waddling his way to mobster fame, and it's everything you didn’t know you needed: gritty, chaotic, and somehow, incredibly bingeable. If you’re in the mood to cheer on a villain this weekend (and trust me, you will), give it a watch!

Also superhero fans need not apply—this show is definitely for everyone.

Got leftover Halloween candy? We got you 😏

Atomic Habits by James Clear

Atomic Habits might be the little nudge we all need to get our lives together, one tiny step at a time. James Clear breaks down how to level up with sneaky, microscopic habit changes that actually stick.

It’s packed with clever hacks to trick yourself into being productive without overhauling your entire life. Honestly, if this book helps me quit my phone-scroll rabbit hole, I’m considering it a victory. Give it a go—and get ready for some serious self-high-fives.

Thanks for reading The SCV Insider today—now go do something fun, mildly chaotic, and totally justifiable as “self-improvement.”
