MLK Day Unity Walk 👟 

Celebrate a legacy that changed the course of history. The City of Santa Clarita invites you to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life and mission with their annual MLK Day Unity Walk. Happening Monday, January 20, 2025, at Central Park, this year’s theme, “Mission Possible: Protecting Freedom, Justice, and Democracy in the Spirit of Nonviolence 365,” sets the stage for an inspiring morning.

Kick things off at 8 AM with guest speakers, musical performances, and a community walk (choose between 0.6 and 1.1 miles). Bonus points if you bring along donations for local nonprofits like Bridge to Home and SCV Food Pantry—think laundry detergent, toiletries, or peanut butter. No RSVP needed; just bring your enthusiasm (and maybe some comfy walking shoes!)

Step Into the Great Outdoors 🌳 

New year, new trails. Santa Clarita’s monthly Community Hikes are back, featuring activities that make exploring the outdoors even better. Whether you’re into nature walks, self-defense, or even line dancing, there’s something for everyone—all set against the city’s stunning open spaces.

The first hike at Placerita Nature Center took place on Saturday, January 4, at 4:00 p.m., kicking off the year with a guided nature adventure. complete with a guided nature hike. February brings self-defense lessons at Central Park’s exercise staircase, while March swaps kicks for brushes with a painting session. Did we mention it’s all free? Orchard Village’s Safety Upgrade 🚧 

Heads up, SCV drivers! Crews began installing dividers along Orchard Village Road on January 4, creating dedicated bike and pedestrian lanes. Spanning from Lyons Avenue to Mill Valley Road, this project aims to enhance safety for all travelers.

Daytime work continues from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with nighttime construction wrapping up in the next two weeks. While it may cause minor delays, the result will be safer roads and a more pedestrian-friendly community. Let’s celebrate progress—and plan ahead for a smoother commute.
