Local Stories

Community

⚖️ You’ve probably seen them—those hillside solar panels off Soledad Canyon that sparked a yearslong legal tug-of-war. Now, the fight between Canyon View Estates and the city of Santa Clarita isn’t about whether they stay up (they are), but who’s picking up the multi-million-dollar tab. Canyon View is asking for more than $3.5 million in legal fees after the courts agreed the city had to pay $5 million for trying to remove the panels. Meanwhile, the city’s saying they should be reimbursed over $1.5 million for stopping unpermitted construction. Both sides are still arguing over who actually “won,” and with another hearing set for April 23, this saga isn’t cooling off anytime soon. (The Signal)

Entertainment

😸 Whether you're a lifelong theatre kid or just curious what all the meow-sic is about (pun absolutely intended), Cats is taking over Main Street this weekend with a local production of the iconic Broadway hit. Playing at the Canyon Theatre Guild, the show brings T.S. Eliot’s whimsical feline poetry to life with soaring ballads and plenty of Jellicle drama. This award-winning musical has clawed its way into theater history with seven Tonys and a Grammy—now it’s Santa Clarita’s turn to experience the magic.

Sports

💃 Valencia High’s dance team didn’t just take the stage—they owned it. In a whirlwind of pirouettes, precision, and pure passion, the team twirled their way to the top at West Coast Elite Nationals, snagging Grand Champion honors for the first time in school history. With over 900 routines and 100+ teams in the mix, they didn’t just win—they swept, placing first in four categories and landing three routines in the weekend’s top 10. Coach Andrew Allan called it his most talented team yet, and after this, it’s hard to argue. Consider this their mic drop moment—only with jazz hands. (The Signal)

Business

💼 Job hunters, mark your calendars! The SCV Spring 2025 Job Fair is popping up at College of the Canyons on Friday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—and yes, it’s free and open to the public. Whether you're scouting your first gig, dreaming of a career pivot, or just like the thrill of a fresh resume, this fair has you covered. Expect a wide range of employers, free parking, and a chance to mingle with hiring managers in the West Gym. Need to polish that résumé? Stop by the Resume Refresh drop-in event on April 16, no appointment needed. (SCV News)

Education

🏅 10 SCV elementary schools just made the honor roll—big time. State Superintendent Tony Thurmond announced that a whopping ten local schools earned a coveted spot on California’s 2025 Distinguished Schools list, recognized for academic excellence and closing achievement gaps. Among the honorees: Old Orchard, Meadows, Pico Canyon, Leona H. Cox, Cedarcreek, Rosedell, Plum Canyon, Mountainview, West Creek Academy, and North Park. That’s three school districts—Newhall, Sulphur Springs, and Saugus—getting serious gold stars for student success. Here’s to the educators, students, and staff making SCV shine! (The Signal)

Our Staff’s Weekend Picks

Watch

“As someone who works in the entertainment industry, The Studio hits so many familiar notes in the most ridiculous way. It’s fast, funny, and packed with inside-Hollywood chaos. Seth Rogen plays a clueless studio exec trying to make ‘art’ while also being forced to greenlight a Kool-Aid movie—tell me that’s not painfully accurate. The long, continuous shots are wild, and the whole thing is a love letter (and roast) to the industry.”

—EJ Gullett, Ad Partnerships Lead

Eat

“If you know me, you know breakfast is my love language—and these three SCV spots totally nail it. Whether you’re in the mood for something sweet, savory, or just straight-up satisfying, these places deliver every time. Trust me, your weekend brunch plans are handled.”

The Last Wish is a collection of short stories that gives the reader a glimpse into the world of the Witcher where monsters, sorceresses, and love triangles abound. ACOTAR fans, trust me, you will like this series!”
