Entertainment

🎹 Get ready for an unforgettable night of jazz as acclaimed pianist Jason Moran teams up with the CSUN Jazz “A” Band to explore the legendary music of Duke Ellington. On February 13, join Moran and vocalist Daryn Dean for a performance that reinterprets Ellington’s work, celebrating Black American history and the Great Migration. With both improvised solos and collaborative magic, this is a one-of-a-kind chance to see jazz students jam with a true legend. Don’t miss it—this will be an evening of jazz you won’t forget!

Sports

🏒 Hockey fans, get your game face on! The Cube is hosting the 2025 West Coast Hockey Conference Playoffs from Feb. 7-9, and it’s going to be a weekend full of epic face-offs. With teams from California, Arizona, and New Mexico battling it out, you won’t want to miss the championship games on Sunday. Tickets are just $10 for a single game, or $20 for the whole weekend—so why not go all in and catch every slapshot, check, and goal? Plus, snacks and drinks are on tap at The Grille and The Top Shelf. (SCV News)

Business

🐾 Good news, pet lovers! The Castaic Animal Care Center is back open after being temporarily closed due to the Hughes Fire. Thanks to the quick action of firefighters, the center is safe and ready to get back to business, offering adoptions, pet licensing, and more. So, if you’re looking to adopt a furry friend or just need some pet care, head on over! Let’s get those pets back home where they belong. (SCV News)

Education

🏡 The new College of the Canyons board is shaking things up by taking a second look at the low-income student housing project that was temporarily scrapped by the previous board. After sending back $62 million in state funding, they’re now trying to get that money back and push forward with a plan for on-campus housing. With the growing need for student accommodations, this could be a game changer—though not without its challenges. Stay tuned for more updates as this decision plays out! (The Signal)

Discussion

Where’s the best view in SCV?

Is it the top of a hiking trail at golden hour? The peak of a roller coaster at Magic Mountain? Or maybe it’s just the sight of no traffic on the 5 (a rare but beautiful thing).

We want to know where you go to soak in the best views Santa Clarita has to offer — whether it’s a hidden lookout, a favorite park, or your own backyard.

Drop your favorite scenic spots, and we’ll feature the best ones in our newsletter and on Instagram. Bonus points if your view includes a killer sunset or a surprisingly photogenic parking lot.

Our Staff’s Weekend Picks

Watch

“If you’re into spy thrillers with a fun twist, The Recruit is a must-watch. It follows a newbie CIA lawyer who gets thrown into some wild international drama way above his pay grade. It’s fast-paced, clever, and keeps you on your toes. Plus, our friend George is one of the writers, and he crushed it—so definitely check it out. Season 2 just dropped!”

—EJ Gullett, Ad Partnerships Lead

Eat

“Last weekend was all about smash burgers. We grabbed some ground beef from Wild Fork—yes, the local spot!—and it seriously leveled things up. Crispy edges, juicy in the middle, total burger perfection. Do yourself a favor: hit up Wild Fork, fire up the grill, and get smashing.”

—Cole Moeller, Head of Sourcing

Read

“This week I’m reading The Examiner by Janice Hallett. It’s a fun mystery about six art university students told through their group chats, emails, and written assignments. The format is a refreshing change from normal whodunits and I’m eagerly bookmarking sections that seem suspicious to keep track of all the clues 🕵️. If you need an escape this weekend, put on your detective hat and add The Examiner on your reading list!”
