Ready to see some real racing action? Forget the horses, forget the cars—on Sunday, October 6th from 11am-3pm, it's all about rubber ducks at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center. Yes, rubber ducks. And trust us, it's more exciting than it sounds.

Here’s the deal about this event put on by the amazing folks at Samuel Dixon Family Health Center:

$5 Duck Race Entry: A small price to pay for glory. Each duck gets a shot in multiple heats, and you’ll be one step closer to a Grand Prize.
Cool Off: Spoiler alert, there’s a heat wave coming for us this weekend so bring your swimsuit and cool off while your duck does all the hard work.
Feel Good: Not just because you're racing ducks, but because all proceeds help provide affordable healthcare for local families.

SCV’s First Indoor Pool is Almost Here 💦

Santa Clarita is about to swim into uncharted waters—literally. Our first indoor pool is nearly ready, and the anticipation is as high as the water levels will be. The plastering is finished, and 27,000 gallons of water will soon fill the pool at Valencia Summit.

This isn’t just another community pool—this one is here to stay open year-round, offering swim lessons and water exercise programs. The design? Clean and simple, with a 4.5-foot depth ideal for learning and fitness. And for those who appreciate continuity, the pool’s well-known mural remains untouched, preserving a little history in this new space.

The grand opening is expected later this year, so whether you're a seasoned swimmer or still mastering your doggy paddle, SCV will soon have a place for you to dive in.

GVHS Uses Dance to Build a Sense of Community 💃

At Golden Valley High School, the Ballet Folklorico De Oro program is much more than just dance practice—it’s where students find a sense of belonging. Led by veteran instructor Juanita Rojas, this program has grown from a club to a physical education class where students not only earn credits but also discover themselves through cultural expression.

The students come from diverse backgrounds, with some seeking a connection to their heritage and others, like sophomore Rafael Zabala, exploring a new culture entirely. The program has become a bridge—connecting students, cultures, and communities—while fostering confidence in a supportive environment.

Every week, these students learn more than just choreography. They learn history, culture, and how to move with intention. It’s a dance class, yes—but one that’s shaping their school experience in ways that extend far beyond the dance floor.

Bob Baker’s Marionette ‘Spooktacular’ 🎃

Newhall Family Theatre is about to get a little more animated—thanks to the Bob Baker Marionettes. Their “Hallowe’en Spooktacular” promises to bring a twist to the usual Halloween fare with puppetry that’s more classic than creepy.

Expect to see skeletons, fantastical creatures, and a lively glow-in-the-dark number that’ll likely keep audiences of all ages captivated. In addition to the performance, there’s a costume parade each weekend in October, making this event a perfect way to celebrate Halloween with a bit of old-school charm.

Tickets are $5, and with a lineup like this, it’s a low-cost, high-value outing that’s bound to leave a lasting impression (no strings attached 😉)

Planet Fitness Plans New Location on McBean Parkway 🏋️

Planet Fitness is looking to move into Northpark Village Square, replacing the former Rite Aid on McBean Parkway. If approved, the gym will offer 24-hour access to those looking to fit in a workout at any time of day.

The plan aims to revitalize the shopping center, drawing more people into neighboring businesses like Tomato Joe’s and Everbright Family Dentistry. It’s a move that could shift the local fitness landscape, giving residents another option for staying active while boosting local commerce.

If all goes well, SCV will soon have one more reason to prioritize health and wellness.
